The UFC middleweight champion, Chris Weidman, went through a frightening experience this Thursday morning (16). The American fighter helped rescue a neighbor, a 94-year-old woman, who had suffered an accident moments before near her home in Long Island, in the United States.
Weidman stated that he found the elderly woman completely bloodied in the garage of her home. “I was cleaning my car and it was pouring rain in the morning. Then, out of nowhere, I started to hear this noise: 'Ahhh! Ahhh! Ahhh!'. It was very loud, but with the rain it was difficult to figure out what it was and where it was coming from. So, I got in my car and started heading towards where his house is – two houses to the right, across the street from mine. I rolled down the window and started listening. And when I arrived, I realized it was an elderly woman screaming: 'Help me! Help me!'”, the fighter told the North American website “MMA Fighting”.
The UFC champion said he had difficulty getting in touch with the local emergency service. “I got out of the car and ran towards her, and she was bleeding everywhere. I got close, she dropped her phone and continued begging for help. I called emergency services twice, but they transferred the call and I couldn't speak to anyone. So I called a friend who works in the police and explained the seriousness of the situation, and that's what took someone there shortly after,” he detailed.
Still not quite understanding what had just happened, Weidman said he helped his neighbor in any way he could. “She was all bloody, so I took some tissues and started pressing her wounds. She said she fell onto a glass table, and I later found out that she was bleeding a lot because she was taking heart medication that thins the blood. So, I would try to talk to her about normal things to distract her, but she would say 'I want to live another year! I want to live another year!', and I insisted that she would be fine. I was very lucky that I went towards it to see what was going on, because my neighborhood is isolated. She was in shock, she couldn't make phone calls. I happened to be in the right place at the right time”, concluded the fighter.
