Toquinho defends WSOF belt against Jon Fitch, in December

After being postponed due to the Brazilian's family problems, the expected duel between Rousimar Toquinho and Jon Fitch for the welterweight belt of World Series of Fighting already has a date set. The clash will take place on December 13th, as the main event of the WSOF 16 event.

The information was confirmed by the organization's vice-president, Ali Abdel-Aziz, in an interview with the “MMA Fighting” website. According to the director, the date and location of the event have not yet been defined, but it is known that the fight night will take place in the United States.

Toquinho and Fitch were scheduled to fight in July this year, but the Brazilian requested the duel be suspended to accompany his mother during surgery. The attitude greatly irritated the North American, who harshly criticized his rival and began a series of public attacks between them.

At 36 years old, Jon Fitch has a professional record of 26 wins, six losses, one draw and one unsuccessful fight. The North American played in the UFC between 2005 and 2013 and even challenged for the welterweight belt against Georges St Pierre. In WSOF, he achieved challenger status after beating Marcelo Alfaya and Dennis Hallman.

Rousimar Palhares, 34 years old, has a record of 16 wins and six losses in MMA. The Minas Gerais native from Dores do Indaiá was also a UFC athlete, but was fired in October last year after repeatedly holding back a submission too much. Toquinho debuted in WSOF in March this year, challenging champion Steve Carl and won quickly, with a heel hook in just over a minute.
