Despite another defeat, Overeem will remain in the UFC, confirms Dana White

President of the organization argues that the Dutchman still belongs to the top 10 and promises a new commitment for the fighter soon

At UFC Fight Night 50, on September 5th, alistair overeem suffered his third defeat in five fights in Ultimate when he was knocked out by Ben Rothwell. This result called into question his continuity in the UFC, but the organization's president, Dana White, assured that the Dutchman will continue with his job.

“He's still ranked in the top 10. We're going to give him one more fight,” said White, in an interview with the 'UFC Tonight' program on the North American broadcaster “FOX Sports”.

Signed at Strikeforce gold, Overeem arrived at the UFC at the end of 2011, boasting an unbeaten record that lasted four years and 12 fights. In his Octagon debut, he defeated former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar, with a technical knockout in the first round.

This record placed the Dutchman in the position of challenger for the belt, which, at the time, belonged to junior gypsy. However, Overeem was caught in a surprise drug test and received a punishment.

His return to the UFC only took place at the beginning of 2013, when he was knocked out by Antonio Pezão. Months later, another setback when he was also knocked out by Travis Browne. In February of this year, Overeem took a breather when he defeated Frank mir in a warm fight, but a new defeat against Rothwell put his position in Ultimate at risk.
