More than three years after his last professional fight, Brazilian Hermes França returned to MMA last week. And the return of Hermes, who served a 42-month sentence in the US and was recently deported, could not have been more discouraging. At 40 years old, the former UFC lightweight title challenger was knocked out in just 34 seconds by Márcio Breno in the main fight of the “Extrema Fighter – Nordeste” event, held in Fortaleza (CE).

The fighter was arrested in 2011 on charges of attempted sexual abuse against a minor at his jiu-jitsu gym in the city of Clackamas, in the US state of Oregon. A year after his arrest, França made a plea deal in which he admitted he was guilty in the case. In professional MMA, Hermes França has a record of 22 wins, 12 losses and one no contest. The Ceará native played in Ultimate between 2003 and 2008 and was the only Brazilian athlete to date to compete for the lightweight category belt (up to 70 kg) in the organization.
