Currently, Demian is already at home, after having a catheter inserted in his arm. The athlete is visited by a nurse twice a day to assess his condition and medicate him. After treatment with antibiotics, Maia will be re-evaluated by doctors, who will only then be able to determine how long he will be without training or fighting.

At 36, Demian Maia has a professional record of 19 wins and six losses. Multi-time jiu-jitsu world champion and former UFC middleweight title challenger, Demian last stepped into the octagon on May 31, when he beat the Russian Alexander Yakovlev in a fight held on the main card of TUF Brasil 3 Final, in São Paulo (SP).
