He barely arrived in the UFC after a short period of litigation with Bellator, where he was lightweight champion, and North American Eddie Alvarez is already making waves in the 70 kg category. In an interview given shortly before announcing his agreement with the largest MMA organization on the planet and defining his debut against Donald Cerrone for September, Alvarez has already made statements challenging another fighter and sending a very direct message to his division rivals.

“I'm ready, man. I'm ready to fight. I can fight in a month, I can fight in two months. The only thing I had to do was understand the lives of a lot of these UFC fighters and it seems like you need to be prepared at any moment. At Bellator, I chose the fights, when I would fight, when I wouldn't fight and things like that. I see the UFC a little differently, people get cut, people get hurt. You have to be prepared at any time. I'm going to be one of those guys who is ready to fight at all times. If Pettis decides to get hurt or something like that, I would like to take his place for this fight (against Gilbert Melendez, at UFC 181)”, said the former Bellator champion, in an interview with the “MMA Fighting” website.

“The reason Melendez's name comes to mind is because my name has come out of his mouth many times in the past. Personally, I don't really care about the other guys. I feel like I can pretty much take on anyone in the division. On a personal level, the only one I think I should fight and resolve this against is Melendez. Everyone else, I have nothing personal against them. It's just a business. I'm not here to be a ladder for anyone. I came here to be the champion, period. If someone wants to fight me before I have that opportunity, it will be hell for them,” he added.

At 30 years old, Eddie Alvarez has a professional record of 25 wins and three losses. Bellator lightweight champion twice, the Blackzilians athlete starred in one of the most intense rivalries of the main UFC competing organization against Michael chandler, whom he faced twice. Alvarez debuts in the biggest MMA event on the planet on September 27th, against “Cowboy” Donald Cerrone, in the co-main fight of UFC 178, in Las Vegas (USA).
