Former fighter talks about video game contract that made him stay in the UFC against his will

Jon Fitch made shocking revelations about his relationship with the UFC, the largest mixed martial arts organization in the world. In an interview with Sportskeeda, the former fighter MMA he said he was threatened by the promotion into signing a contract for the UFC 2009 Undisputed video game, which he considered unfair.

Fitch, who fought for the company's welterweight belt in 77, said he refused to sign the contract, which gave him perpetual image rights to the game, without receiving any pay raise or additional bonus. He stated that he intended to go to Strikeforce, another MMA organization, but was coerced by the organization into re-signing.

“They took me out of the promotion. And they put a lot of pressure on me because I wasn't going to stay with them, I was going to go to Strikeforce, so they threatened to fire all my teammates if I didn't re-sign with them,” said Fitch.

Fitch trained at the American Kickboxing Academy, one of the most renowned gyms in the sport, which had other Ultimate fighters such as Josh koscheck, Cain Velazquez e Daniel Cormier. He says he felt forced to re-sign with the organization to avoid harming his colleagues and his management company.

“They weren't going to make any changes to the contract, so basically I had to re-sign with them under the threat of my teammates being kicked out of the UFC and my management company not being represented ever again, so they kindly put me under pressure to force myself to sign a contract”, he stated.

Fitch fought in the company until 2013, when he was fired after a loss to Demian Maia. He then went on to WSOF, where he was welterweight champion, PFL and Bellator, where he retired in 2020. The former fighter ended his career with a record of 32 positive results, eight negative results and two draws.
