Another case of doping appears in MMA. The UFC announced this Wednesday (13) that middleweight Mike King tested positive following his loss to Cathal Pendred at UFC Fight Night 46 in July and was fired from the organization.
King, defeated in the fight via submission, was caught using nandrolone, an anabolic substance. In addition to losing his job, the American received a nine-month suspension and had to return the US$50 he received as the “Fight of the Night” prize at the event, held in Dublin, Ireland.
In a statement, the fighter admitted what happened and said he will try to do everything he can to return to the organization. “I take full responsibility for my actions and decisions and do not make any excuses. I wanted to apologize to my opponent and friend Cathal Pendred, the UFC, Dana White, Lorenzo Fertitta, coaches, teammates, management, friends, family, and most of all, my fans. I believe in the power of redemption and second chances. I will work tirelessly to prove that I am a trustworthy person, who deserves the honor of competing at the highest level of the sport I love,” said the fighter.
