Fabricio Werdum made a surprising revelation about his last fight, against Junior Gypsy, MMA without gloves. In his podcast, during the “Werdum Responds“, the gaucho said that he thought about throwing in the towel in the interval between the second and third rounds, but changed his mind at the right time.

Werdum said that he was suffering from several injuries and pain in his body, and that he told his coach that he no longer wanted to continue. However, he regretted his decision and returned for the last round, even though he knew he was at a disadvantage.

“I almost gave up. I said: 'Master, I can't do it anymore'. He was completely broken, with pain in his leg and foot. He wasn't tired, but he was in a lot of pain. I even said I didn't want it anymore. He made the gesture that it was over and the judge asked: 'How is it?'. At this point, I thought and said I could continue. I came back”, reported Werdum.

Werdum with depression?

The fighter stated that if he had given up, he could be in depression now, and that it was a proof of personal overcoming. He also said that he was not satisfied with his performance, but that the clash provided a lot of experience.

“I would regret it for the rest of my life. Now, I would suddenly be depressed. It was another test, a fight with myself. Thinking about giving up, but doing the right thing. I would get sick in my head. In a few seconds I made a very important decision in my life. I didn't get knocked out, I managed to keep it. The fight wasn't spectacular, but it was good. Lots of experience and little fighting”, said Werdum.

End of the rivalry

The fight between Werdum and Cigano was the main attraction of Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA, an event led by the fighter Jorge masvidal, which promotes bare-knuckle fighting. It was the second time that the two Brazilians faced each other, the first being in 2008, at UFC 90, when Cigano won by knockout in the first round.

This time, the result was different, but still favorable to Cigano. The Santa Catarina native won by split decision from the judges, in a bloody fight. Junior dominated the first round, knocking Werdum down with a straight right and opening a deep cut on his opponent's left eye.

Werdum reacted in the second round, trying to take the fight to the ground and landing some blows in his striking. In the third round, both fighters showed fatigue and caution, but Cigano was more effective in his attacks and secured the victory.
