VIDEO: Criticized for using low guard, Poatan reveals tactics used to surprise rivals

Reference in stand-up fighting, Alex Poatán who has accumulated world titles in kickboxing and MMA, is the target of criticism and questions about the use of 'low guard' during confrontations. Despite having already suffered knockouts in his career, the Brazilian maintains the tactic he uses to surprise his opponents.

In a video published by master Rangel Farias (see below), Poatan appears explaining why he shouldn't fight with his guard up at all times. According to the Brazilian, the strategy is completely calculated and only used when both athletes have no chance of landing punches during the confrontation.

Scheduled to compete for the light heavyweight belt (up to 93kg), the Brazilian is preparing to face Jiri Prochazka, an athlete also known for his versatility in striking. Appointed as the favorite in the bookmakers, the Brazilian can avenge the defeat suffered by Glover Teixeira, who is currently his coach and training partner.

In search of winning the second title in his career in Ultimate, Poatan returns to New York, a stage he triumphed over Israel adesanya, one year after an unprecedented feat. In an event led by Jon Jones x Stipe Miocic, the Brazilian appears in the penultimate fight of the night in a duel valid for the vacant title in the under-93kg category.
