After overcoming Raphael Fiziev and advance in the lightweight division (up to 70,3kg.) of Ultimate, Mateusz gamrot dared to suggest his next challenge. Protagonist in UFC Las Vegas 79, the Pole confirmed his desire to share the octagon with Charles of the Bronx. The fighter pointed to his qualities in jiu-jitsu to explain his ambition to face the former champion of the category.
“I really believe in myself. I won many jiu-jitsu tournaments. For my next appointment, I would like to test myself against Charles Oliveira (From the Bronx). He is the most dangerous fighter on the ground. My previous opponents fought standing up. I want to test myself on the ground, show my jiu-jitsu skills, show how good they are. I think he (Charles) would be the first to agree to fight me on the ground”, said Gamrot.

Aware that the Brazilian has a confirmed commitment for October 21st, when he faces the champion Islam makhachev for the lightweight belt, Gamrot guarantees that he has no problem waiting for his 'dream rival'. The athlete then explains that he would only be willing to return to the competition in the 2024 season.
“I know he fights against the champion every month. I think Islam will defend the belt and I can wait for Charles until next year. It doesn't matter. Maybe March or May. I’ll be ready,” he signed off.
Lightweight champion in Ultimate between 2022 and 2023, Do Bronx will have the opportunity to regain the category title in UFC 294. A year after the adverse result against Makhachev last season, the Brazilian returns to Abu Dhabi and tries to reverse the setback he suffered against the Russian last year.
Promise of the division, Gamrot is enjoying a good time in the company. After the triumph in UFC Las Vegas 79, the Pole should take sixth place in the group ranking.
