At a great moment in his career, Jared Cannonier has accumulated two consecutive victories in the UFC and expects to receive a second chance at the belt. Focused on the fight against the champion, the North American revealed that he had rejected a recent offer from Ultimate to perform and stated that, as long as there is no official announcement about who the next challenger will be, he will continue to wait.
“Last week, I was offered someone. My manager called me and passed on the message. I'm not going to sit on a name for weeks. But these are special circumstances, you know? I'm in a different position now. I'm at the top of the division. I'm not trying to look back. If they schedule the title fight tomorrow, then I'm not going to be like, 'I have to wait until the title fight.' But if the title fight isn’t scheduled, I’m not going to plan, tie myself up and miss this opportunity,” said Cannonier in an interview with 'Sportskeeda MMA'.

Fourth placed in the middleweight rankings (up to 83,9kg), Cannonier was the last fighter to defeat Sean Strickland in the UFC. Winner in a split decision by the judges, the athlete is identified by the champion's team as the ideal challenger for the first title defense.
Despite the initiative, Jared needs to wait for a statement from Israel adesanya about the next step in the organization. According to Dana White, the Nigerian has decision-making power regarding a possible immediate rematch against Strickland.
