Days after facing Fabricio Werdum in MMA without gloves, Junior Gypsy decreed the end of the rivalry with his compatriot. Victorious in the confrontation, the veteran highlighted the importance of the rematch that took place 15 years after the first meeting and explained the reason for his gratitude towards his compatriot. The statement was made in an interview with the podcast 'Trocação Franca'.
“We ended the cycle of a rivalry that was created way back when and we continue in this rivalry, even if it's a bit meaningless. (…) I have respect and admiration for them and I am grateful. Cigano became known because he fought Werdum way back when. The boom in my career came because I had the opportunity to fight a guy who was very renowned. (…) There is no more room for negativity. (…) When I started (fighting) my inspirations were him (Werdum) and (Rodrigo) Minotauro, renowned fighters, heavyweights. It inspired me to become who I became”, said Junior.
