The long-awaited fight between Chris Weidman e Vitor belfort, valid for the UFC middleweight belt, could take place in Brazil. This is what the organization's president, Dana White, indicated in a press conference held this Friday (18).

White stated that the fight would have a huge impact in Brazil, which would allow the fight to take place in the country instead of in the United States. “Do you know how big this fight would be in Brazil? It would be huge. This fight would be huge in Brazil. It could be done in a big stadium. We would have a full house, it would be a great fight”, said White, in an excerpt reproduced by the North American website “MMA Fighting”.

However, White established only one condition for the fight to actually take place: that Belfort finally obtains a license to fight under the supervision of the Nevada Athletic Commission, which inspects events held in Las Vegas, in the United States. “We want the ‘OK’ from Nevada, even if the fight doesn’t happen there. If Nevada doesn’t have any problems with that, I would do this fight in Brazil,” he commented.

At the moment, Belfort does not have a license from the Nevada Commission, as he was caught in an anti-doping test by the entity in February, for having testosterone levels above the permitted level. In 2006, Belfort failed another exam in Nevada, this time for anabolic substances.

The “Phenomenon” and Weidman were going to face each other at UFC 173, in May, but the Brazilian was removed from the fight after the ban on testosterone replacement therapy (TRT). In his place, the UFC selected another Brazilian, Lyoto Machida, who was defeated by the North American.
