Without stepping into the octagon since November 2013, Nate diaz sees his relationship with the UFC getting worse every day. After refusing to face Khabib Nurmagomedov and further increase his time in the fridge, the controversial North American saw a message published on his official profile on Twitter repercussions very badly with President Dana White. On the microblogging network, Diaz published: “Some people suck up to the UFC a lot and they wear Cowboy hats.” Upon learning of the message, which also contained profanity, the manager quickly came to the defense of Cowboy Cerrone.

“Nate can do whatever he wants. He can sit back and not fight in any UFC for as long as he wants. Who cares? He is a grown man. Sit there for as long as you want, do this for the rest of your career, it's your decision. But making fun of guys who like to fight and who go out there and have amazing fights and who people love to see fight? Cowboy gets in there and does what he does. People love Cowboy Cerrone. Nate wants to talk about making money, but there's only one way to make money and that's by fighting,” said White, in a statement reproduced on the UFC's official website.

At the time, the confusion began at the weigh-in, when Nate attacked his rival and had to be restrained by those present. On the day of the fight, Diaz did not give up on the provocations, he cursed his opponent and made several obscene gestures towards him, but he held his own and came out with the victory by unanimous decision.
