Bantamweight champion of the Jungle Fight, Jonas Bilharinho from Rio was courted by the second largest MMA organization on the planet, Bellator. However, according to the fighter himself, the dream of working in the UFC made him reject the rival event's proposal. In addition to the desire to perform in the Octagon, Bilharinho also cited gratitude to Jungle as one of the reasons for his stay.
“I declined the offer for two reasons. I have a fight coming up Jungle Fight and I know how important this is for the organization. I respect Wallid Ismail (Jungle president) and I would never do something like that to him. Secondly, everyone knows that I always wanted to go to the UFC, so I'm really waiting for an offer from them”, said the champion, in an interview with the “MMA Fighting” website.
Undefeated as a professional, with a record of five wins and one draw, Jonas hopes to put his newly won belt on the line in August. Among his triumphs, only the title fight was won after a decision by the judges. The Team Nogueira athlete's other four victories came after three knockouts and one submission.
