Five reasons to watch UFC 292, with Amanda Lemos in a historic title fight for Brazilian MMA

The great day has come. This Saturday (19), in Boston (USA), the UFC 292. With 12 fights scheduled, two of which will be title fights, the show promises to shake up the spirits of MMA fans. Featured on the card, Amanda lemos competes for the strawweight title (up to 52,1kg) and could make history in the sport of his country.

In the main fight, aljamain sterling tries to expand his legacy in bantamweight (up to 61,2kg.). Champion since 2020, the athlete faces Sean O'Malley, the darling of Ultimate and a bet for the future of the organization.

UFC 292 warm-up: Remember previous Ultimate events held in Boston

At 36 years old, Lemos steps into the Octagon for his first challenge of the 2023 season and the biggest commitment of his MMA career. In a big phase, Pará challenges Weili Zhang, holder of the strawweight title and seeks to become the second Brazilian to wear the group's belt.

In addition to Amanda, Brazil has four more representatives. Last minute cast at the event, Peter Munhoz measures strength with the dangerous Marlon Vera.

Although it is not the main fight of the event, for most Brazilians, the challenge of Amanda lemos is the most awaited UFC 292. Famous for her aggressiveness, the woman from Pará won and convinced herself in seven challenges before winning the challenger spot.

At the weekend, however, Tupiniquim will not have an easy life. On the other side of the octagon, the Chinese Weili Zhang will do his best with the intention of maintaining his second reign in the division.

Known for delivering great challenges to their rivals, Lemos and the champion have everything they need to stage one of the best fights in the history of women's MMA. Both carry with them the versatility and ability to win in the fast lane.

2) Aljamain Sterling x Sean O'Malley

After months of provocations, aljamain sterling e Sean O'MalleyUltimately, they will resolve their differences in the octagon. On the one hand, the champion is trying to remain at the absolute top of the bantamweight division and reach the mark of four title defenses. On the other, the would-be Ultimate star wants to make the organization's bet count.

During the promotion of the fight, Sterling even stated that Sean will only compete for the title because he enjoys privileges with Dana White, president of the company. O'Malley, in turn, has a positive trajectory, even though he has faced few strong rivals throughout his career at the company.

If there are no unforeseen events, Aljamain and Sean will solve the mystery. At the end of the confrontation, the title belt will change hands or continue in the same chapter that began in 2020.

Although he is not the most popular UFC champion, aljamain sterling has been doing well since his first title defense. After conquering the throne in an anticlimactic way, with the disqualification of Petr yan, in 2020, the fighter shows evolution fight by fight and establishes himself as one of the greats in the history of MMA.

Considered by many to be the best bantamweight of all time, Dominick Cruz remains an icon of the sport, even far from his peak. As holder of the belt, in two reigns, the North American reached the mark of three title defenses, a number also achieved by TJ Dillashaw.

Today, Aljamain has already equaled the sport's veteran's mark. If he beats O'Malley in the UFC 292, Sterling will be isolated on the list of successes in retaining the title, with four.

Like it or not, Sterling has a record of respect within the company and, as champion, he has left nothing to be desired. In his last challenges, the North American defeated three former leaders of the division, being Petr yan, TJ Dillashaw e Henry Cejudo.

4) Sean O'Malley: truth or deception?

Colorful hair, young, good at interviews and dangerous in the Octagon. Sean O'Malley collects attributes that led him to become ingratiated with Dana White, president of Ultimate.

When he appeared to a large part of the public, in 2017, when he starred in a brutal knockout on the 'Contender Series', Sean was already promising to put on a show as an Ultimate contractor. Six years later, the athlete managed to prove his worth.

Since its debut, there have been 10 presentations, with eight positive results, one 'no contest' and one setback. One of Sterling's criticisms about O'Malley is the lack of strong opponents. On his way, the North American faced only Petr yan as a representative of the top 5.

For those curious, Sean will give an answer about his talent on Saturday. If he wins, he will silence his critics. If he is defeated, he can return to the 'end of the line' and restart his path towards the top of the group.

5) More Brazil

Besides Amanda lemos, Brazil has four more representatives at the event.

Last minute cast on the show, Peter Munhoz took on the challenge of replacing the injured Henry Cejudo. Current number 10 in the rankings, the bantamweight veteran will face off against the sixth-ranked fighter and, if he surprises the Ecuadorian, he could get back into the top 5.

Hardly overcome by Brunno Hulk at UFC Rio, Gregory Robocop faces his second challenge in the 2023 season. This weekend, the athlete will be an opponent of Denis Tiuliulin and tries to dream of a place in the top 15 middleweight divisions (up to 83,9kg).

Undefeated in the organization, Natalia Silva Looking for a new gig at the company. Opponent of Andrea Lee, the flyweight from Minas Gerais (up to 56,7kg.) wants a new show to get closer to the group's elite.

First Brazilian to climb into the octagon, Karina Silva also wants to expand the good moment. Another flyweight representative, the Brazilian defends her unbeaten record in the UFC, when she faces Maryna moroz.
