UFC 174, held on June 14, was not a popular highlight of the Ultimate season. Headlined by the flyweight belt dispute between Demetrious Johnson and Ali Bagautinov, the event would have sold only around 100 thousand pay per view in the United States, according to initial reports. The number is considered quite low in relation to the other numbered UFC attractions.

However, Demetrious Johnson does not believe that the low number of sales has to do with the popularity of flyweight fighters. In an interview with the North American website “Sherdog”, the champion stated that the Football World Cup, which had started two days before the event, may have been one of those responsible for the numbers.

“My job is to go out there and fight. Obviously, I did my best when trying to promote the event. I gave several interviews. At the end of the day, we are competing with the World Cup, so there are several variables. It may be that the card was not shiny. Maybe people didn’t want to watch”, explained the fighter.

UFC 174, which took place in Vancouver, Canada, also had fights from Ryan bader x Rafael Feijão, Rory McDonald x Tyron woodley e Andrei Arlovski x Brendan Schaub.
