Justin Gaethje lands spectacular kick, knocks out Dustin Poirier and wins BMF belt at UFC 291

The duel that promised and delivered

The two fighters started exchanging low kicks in the center of the cage. Then, Gaethje exploded and tried to land a combination, but Poirier managed to get out of his rival's line. Poirier tries a high kick and Gaethje responds in kind. Justin hits another high kick, which stops in 'Diamante's' guard. The two fighters draw 'gasps' from the audience during moments of frank exchanges. Poirier landed a straight right that wobbled Gaethje, but he was unable to capitalize. Both athletes exchanged blows in a plastic way in the final seconds of the round.

Gaethje started the second half trying more combinations and shaking his head a lot to avoid counterattacks. Still at the beginning of the round, Gaethje surprised and threw a high kick that exploded on Poirier's head and made the former interim champion fall sprawling, forcing the referee to interrupt and order the fight to end.
