The first day of competitions in the FJJD-Rio State Championship, this Saturday (May 30), brought great fights. The black belts were in action until the semi-finals, as the graduation decisions take place this Sunday, starting at 9 am, with live broadcast on the website intheguard.tv. The absolute competitions will also be broadcast, categories that will form the state's teams for the challenge against São Paulo. The white and blue belt champions were announced.
Among all the weights in the main graduation, the most disputed was the medium weight. On one side of the bracket, for Gordo Jiu-Jitsu, Zorobabel Junior beat three opponents. In the first fight, the victory was 6-0, with a sweep and catch from behind. Then the black belt, owner of a sick guard, finished with a triangle, the same move he used to decide the semifinal against the tough Raphael Hottis (Orlando Araujo). On the other side, also for the Gordo team, came Victor Bonfim. After taking down and passing guard in the first presentation, Victor finished with a choke. In the semi-final, the opponent was Quarry Vinícius Marinho (GFTeam). In a very exciting fight, considered by many to be the best of the day, Bonfim achieved victory in the end. When he was losing 4-2 (sweep), he passed the guard and secured the turnaround (5-4) just a few seconds before the end.
The final that should bring excitement this Sunday will be between Renan Vital (Gordo JJ), who submitted Fabrício Araujo (Mestre Wilson) with an omoplata armbar to guarantee his place, and Douglas Moura (Behring). Moura also submitted Jadesom Ferreira with an Armbar. Other highlights this Saturday at black belt were Lucio Flavio (Orlando Araujo), Vitor Henrique (GFTeam) at lightweight and Leandro Ataíde at heavyweight.
At brown belt, the good result of the Soul Fighters team was highlighted, with victories in three categories. At featherweight, Osvaldo Augusto finished two fights and decided the final on points; at light heavyweight José Eduardo also finished two and won the other on points; and in the heavyweight division Diogo Sampaio defeated Cristiano Souza (Checkmat). Still at brown belt, but for Gordo JJ, Leonardo Souza used a triangle and an American standing to finish both fights at featherweight.
In the purple belt, three of those who did well are from Nova União. In the heavyweight division, Kauê Damasceno and Eduardo Rodrigues joined the team, while in the women's division, the three-time Brazilian champion took the lead Claudia gadelha won once again.
