Former BMF champion, Jorge masvidal he abdicated the title after announcing his retirement. Ultimate quickly acted to choose the next candidates for the position desired by many fighters. Justin gaethje e Dustin poirier were chosen and the decision pleased the North American. According to the veteran, the organization was right in choosing athletes who seek violence at all times.

“I loved it. I loved that they kept this alive and chose the right people to fight (for the title). The first fight for BMF was what it should have been: two guys trying to kill each other, not caring and marching forward. If the referee hadn't interrupted, he (Nate diaz) would have literally tried to kill me. He would come at me all the time and I was ready to kill him. But that's how it needs to be, when you go in there, you need to understand that you're going to put on a show for the world and I think they chose the best candidates for that,” Masvidal told 'The MMA Hour'.
