Markus Maluko defeats veteran by technical knockout in professional boxing debut

After a difficult start, the Brazilian overcomes adversity and beats former WEC champion Joe Riggs in the third round

Former UFC representative, Markus Maluko won in his professional boxing debut. Featured on the 'preliminary card'Boxing of Legends', held this Saturday (1), in Milwaukee (USA), the Brazilian had difficulties at the beginning of the clash against veteran Joe Riggs, but managed to redeem himself. After a 'shy' start, the São Paulo native reached a positive result with a technical knockout in the third round.

With the victory, Maluko reaches his third consecutive victory in martial arts. Between 2021 and 2023, the fighter had positive results against Filipe Moitinho and Chase Gamble, both in MMA.

Turning around is tastier

The confrontation began with Riggs taking the initiative with two crosses. Even in the first minute, the veteran remained aggressive and tried to corner the Brazilian. Maluko tried to attack his opponent, but threw jabs and straight shots into the void. Joe continued to chase Markus around the ring and had the advantage in the fight. In the final seconds, the American threw two crosses, but the bell sounded.

In the second round, Maluko launched the first attack, with an overhand. With two minutes gone, the Brazilian cornered his opponent against the ropes and threw two crosses. The North American did not acknowledge the attack and managed to walk away. With a minute left in the stage, Riggs launched two crosses, which stopped in Markus' guard. Close to the sound of the gong, Joe pressed the Brazilian against the ropes and combined hooks on the waistline. Maluko managed to get away and the stage ended.

In the third round, Riggs continued to be more aggressive and showed more familiarity with the 'noble art'. The veteran struck with long-range strikes and continued scoring. Halfway through the stage, Markus responded in kind, launching a straight shot. With just over two minutes remaining, Joe went to the canvas after the Brazilian's attack. The American suffered an injury and was unable to continue in the match.
