Captained by the long-awaited rematch between Alex Poatán e Israel adesanya worth the middleweight belt (up to 83,9kg), the UFC 287 took a hit last weekend when Nikolas Motta had to leave the event and cancel the fight against the Chilean Ignatius Bahamondes.

Through social media, the Brazilian lightweight (up to 70,3kg) shared the reason for missing the card: a deep cut on his face caused by an accidental headbutt during a training session.

In the strong image published by Nikolas Motta, it is possible to see up close the injury that left the fighter's tendon exposed. According to the Minas Gerais native, the decision to skip the card was made by his coaches due to the risk of the cut being opened during the fight, culminating in a possible defeat due to medical interruption.

“Don’t swipe left if you have a weak stomach. I had this accident a few days ago due to a headbutt in wrestling practice and my coaches and people I trust made the decision to ask to postpone my fight three weeks, to have enough time to heal from this, or I would easily open up in the fight and they would probably would stop by medical strike. I've had a lot of stitches throughout my career, but I've never had a deep cut like that. That white part on my cut in the second photo is my tendon, it was very swollen and inflamed. So, even though it seemed unbelievable that something like this would happen before my fight, after thinking a lot I could see that it was the right choice from my coach, who I trust. I've been focused and always in shape since my fight in September last year and I didn't go home to see my family at the end of the year for the first time to be ready to fight in December or the beginning of the year and I've been focused ever since. So I just need a few weeks to heal 100% and trust the process so I can come back,” Nikolas wrote.
