After criticism from Edwards, Dana returns to defending Colby as the next welterweight challenger

The president of Ultimate defended the loudmouth and reinforced the reasons for choosing the North American as the English champion's next rival

After confirming Colby covington as the next welterweight challenger (up to 77,1kg) still in the arena of UFC 286, Dana White countered the champion's criticisms and complaints Leon edwards. In a press conference after UFC San Antonio, held this Saturday (25), the president came out in defense of the loud-mouthed North American and reinforced why he thinks he deserves to be the next to fight for the belt against the Englishman.

“He cut weight, showed up to fill this fight (Edwards and Usman booking) and a million other reasons why he deserves this (title shot). Maybe he (Leon edwards) don’t want to face him because he’s a wrestler, just like Usman, who he fought twice in a row,” said Dana.

No UFC 286, Leon edwards hit Kamaru Usman for the second time and successfully defended the welterweight belt, won against the Nigerian himself in August 2022. The Englishman has a record in the sport of 21 triumphs and only three setbacks.

On the other hand, Covington hasn't stepped into the Octagon since March 2022 when he beat his former training partner and friend Jorge masvidal. The loud-mouthed North American has a record in the sport of 17 positive results and three negative results.
