Curran submits with 14 seconds left and regains Bellator belt

Duel, which marked the trilogy between featherweights, was the main attraction of Bellator 112

Pat curranBellator has a new old champion in the featherweight division. American Pat Curran defeated the man who had taken the title from him: Daniel Straus. With just 14 seconds left in the fight, he landed a perfect rear naked choke and made his opponent tap out and give up the fight. The fight was the main attraction of Bellator 112, an event held on Friday night (14), in Indiana, in the United States.

The fight

The trilogy between Curran and Straus was marked by balance. Straus started better and had the advantage in striking, even knocking his opponent twice in the second round. But in the final half Curan sought recovery and balanced the actions.

In the fifth round, Pat took the duel to the ground, he worked well and changed his positions until he reached the back. With just 14 seconds left, he secured the rear naked choke and won.

Brazilian loses in welterweight GP

In addition to the featherweight belt dispute, the start of the welterweight tournament was another highlight of Bellator 112. The only Brazilian representative at the GP, Cristiano Souza ended up being knocked out by Sam Oropeza, in the first phase of the GP.

Now Oropeza faces the Russian former title challenger Andrei Koreshkov. Nathan Coy and Adam McDonough won by unanimous decision and will make the other semifinal.
