Deiveson narrates drama in fight against Moreno and surprises by stipulating date for UFC bantamweight debut

Exclusively to SUPER LUTAS, former champion opens up about fear of losing vision and plans debut in new category

Former flyweight champion (up to 56,7kg) in Ultimate, Deiveson Figueiredo lived a real drama in UFC 283, when it was surpassed by Brandon Moreno in a fight to unify the title. The loss of the throne was not the biggest concern of the people from Pará, with the exclusive exception of SUPER FIGHTS, narrated moments of tension after the eye injury that determined the end of the clash. The athlete took the opportunity to suggest the date for his debut in bantamweight (up to 61,2kg).

“It crossed my mind that I had lost my sight. The blow that came in, for me, had been a fingertip. I thought I had pierced my eye. (…) I was normal and, simply, after the blow, everything erased. I didn't see anything else. This made me quite worried. (…) When I took the blow, I saw liquid coming out”, said Deiveson.

After Moreno's attack and the resulting injury, the medical team, between the third and fourth rounds, decided to interrupt the confrontation. With the defeat by technical knockout, Figueiredo, still in the Octagon, announced that he would leave flyweight and move to bantamweight.

About a month after the news, the fighter surprised by suggesting a date for his debut. The athlete shows anxiety for the new stage in his career.

“I want to fight from now on in July. I don't want to stay still. Even though I'm not 100% visible, if I can see, I'll go back to training and I want to fight. I want to test myself at bantamweight. I’m feeling good”, assured Deiveson.

At 35 years old, Deiveson, for years, was a standout in the flyweight division, winning the belt on two occasions. Now, the fighter will seek to repeat his success in the division that, today, is led by aljamain sterling.
