The Brazilian fighter Thiago Silva is free again. After being arrested by SWAT – a tactical police unit in the United States –, in early February, for threatening his ex-wife and her current boyfriend with a firearm, in addition to resisting arrest, the athlete left jail in Florida.
The judge responsible for the case set a bond of US$25 and the fighter will face the case outside of prison. The bail amount, around R$58, was paid by Glenn Robinson, leader of the Blackzilians team, where Thiago trains.
After the judge's decision, the lawyer Thiago Silva, Scott Saul, celebrated the result on his social networks. "The fighter Thiago Silva will be released. I fought for a man who was only accused, is presumed innocent, and should have been out of jail from the beginning,” he wrote.
Remember the case
In the early hours of February 07th, Thiago Silva was arrested by Florida police, in the city of Ft Lauderdale, after breaking into the gym of Pablo Popovitch, current boyfriend of his ex-wife, Thaysa Kamiji, armed, and threatening people there. The Brazilian then locked himself in his house where he handed himself in to authorities after a few hours of negotiation. A SWAT team was requested to help resolve the issue.
