Congolese fighter Booto Guylain passed away this Wednesday (05) in Johannesburg (South Africa) after remaining hospitalized in a serious condition for almost a week. Guylain had suffered head injuries during a fight at the event Extreme Fighting Championship Africa 27 last Thursday, February 27th. The information was released on the official EFC Africa website and reproduced by the North American website “MMA Fighting”.
“We are devastated. This is a huge loss for the sport and everyone who knew it. Our condolences go out to the family at this very difficult time”, said the president of EFC Africa Cairo Howarth, in a statement reproduced in the organization's official note. In honor of Guylain, all athletes competing in the next EFC event will wear an arm band as a sign of mourning.
At 29 years old, Booto Guylain suffered his second defeat in two fights as a professional on February 27, when he was knocked out by Keron Davies at EFC Africa Hexagon 27. The fighter leaves behind his wife and son, who, according to EFC management, will receive financial support from an insurance partner of the organization.
