Created by Bellator, A. J. McKee surprised some of the fans by announcing his renewal with the company after having publicly flirted with a transfer to the UFC. In an interview with 'The MMA Hour', the former featherweight champion (up to 65,7kg.) opened up about his decision to remain in his 'home'. According to the athlete, the financial side determined the action.

“There’s $1 million at stake in the lightweight division and I’m interested. So, they (Bellator) made me an offer that I couldn't refuse. (…) I'm raised by Bellator, I grew up here and I've been there my whole career. So I won’t go anywhere unless I have to,” he said.

In search of the best salaries, McKee spoke openly about the financial motivation that made him stay at Bellator. According to the fighter, Ultimate could not present a favorable return in a possible transfer.

“It's no secret that there are organizations paying better than the UFC. So what's the point? Change just for fame? Fame doesn’t pay the bills”, he concluded.
