Demian loses to MacDonald and misses out on a title shot; Cormier runs over rival

Brazilian started well, but was overcome in the judges' decision; Cormier silenced his rival's provocations with a knockout

The dream of fighting for the welterweight belt became more distant for Demian Maia after UFC 170, an event held this Saturday night (22), in Las Vegas, in the United States. After a good start to the fight, the Brazilian ended up entering the Rory McDonald and ended up defeated in a unanimous decision by the judges.

Demian, who entered the octagon trying to recover from the setback against Jake Shields, started with everything. The São Paulo native soon closed the distance, managed the takedown and worked with blows from the top until he reached mount. Although Maia remained in a superior position until the end of the first round, he was unable to finish the dispute.

In the second round, however, the Canadian began to turn the fight around. MacDonald avoided the Brazilian's takedowns and worked well on combinations with boxing strikes and some kicks. Demian seemed to have lost himself in the fight and at times he was close to falling.

With the duel tied, the third round would be responsible for deciding the fight. And MacDonald was better. Demian even managed to take down the Canadian, but was unable to keep his rival on his back on the ground for long. Rory quickly got up and went back to working with striking combinations to win the judges' unanimous decision with a triple 29×28,

Cormier runs over rival and makes successful light heavyweight debut

Patrick Cummins teased Daniel Cormier before the fight, stating that he had made his rival cry during a training session. But inside the octagon set up at the Mandalay Bay Center, he was unable to resist 'DC's' favoritism and fell in 79 seconds. The winner of the Strikeforce heavyweight GP made his debut in style in the light heavyweight division with a quick technical knockout and is already qualifying for the title fight. Jon Jones.

Visibly irritated, Cormier started the fight with everything. Daniel soon closed the distance and landed good boxing blows on his rival. Cummins tried to take the fight to the ground on two occasions, but without success.

After connecting with a powerful right hand, which took Patrick to the ground, Cormier got to his back and ended the fight with several punches that forced referee Mario Yamazaki to end the fight after just 69 seconds.
