Accused of killing his girlfriend in a motel, former UFC fighter faces up to 50 years in prison

Imprisoned since January 01st, on charges of murdering his girlfriend, former UFC fighter Phil Baroni is at serious risk of never 'seeing the sunlight' in freedom again. After the preliminary investigation, the 46-year-old veteran was indicted by a state judge for the crime of qualified femicide and could face up to 50 years in prison. Last Monday (09), agents from the Public Ministry presented evidence to the judge that established Phil Baroni as the main suspect in the case. In contact with 'ESPN', the attorney general of the Office of the State of Nayarit, a state located in Mexico, alleged that the former Ultimate fighter verbally and then physically attacked his girlfriend, causing 'at least 37 injuries', which resulted in the death of the victim.

The trial is expected to begin in the first half of 2023. Meanwhile, Phil Baroni will remain detained in a state prison in Tepic, capital of Nayarit. The local penal code determines a sentence of 30 to 50 years in case of conviction for the crime of qualified femicide.
