Santiago Ponzinibbio shows Argentine race and overcomes rival with tough knockout in battle at UFC 282

Athlete overcomes adversity in the initial rounds, beats Alex Morono in an exciting fight and ends a negative streak

With a last-minute rival scheduled for the UFC 282, held this Saturday (10), in Las Vegas (USA), Santiago Ponzinibbio it was 'from hell to heaven' in the octagon. Opponent of alex morono, substitute for the injured Robbie Lawler, the welterweight (up to 77,1kg.) showed the Argentine race and overcame adversities in the initial rounds. After some scares, the fighter achieved victory with a tough knockout in the third round.

With the result, Santiago breathes a sigh of relief in the organization. Before stepping into the Octagon over the weekend, the 'Argentino Gente Boa' had recorded three defeats in his last five appearances.

'War' in the Octagon

The confrontation began with the athletes exchanging jabs in the center of the octagon and trying to find the best distance. With a minute gone, Morono launched a direct shot, working from long distance. Alex started to be more aggressive and hurt the Argentine with blows to the head. Ponzinibbio found it difficult with distance and launched attacks into the void. In the final minute, Santiago was surprised by a cross from his rival on the counterattack and fell. Alex tried to settle the invoice, but there was no more time.

In the second round, the first attack came from Ponzinibbio, with a jab. The Argentine continued to score with attacks on his opponent's torso, but Morono continued to walk forward. Almost halfway through the round, the Argentine went down again with a clean right to the face applied by his opponent. Santiago got up and responded with a cross, which went empty. Almost in the final minute, Ponzinibbio surprised his opponent with an overhand, but Alex was unfazed. The stage ended with the athletes rehearsing a frank exchange.

The last round began with Santiago launching the first blow, with a jab. The Argentine combined attacks on his rival's feathers and head, but Morono was heading towards Ponzinibbio. With just over a minute into the fight, Santiago was shaken by an attack from his rival and was circulating around the Octagon trying to recover. In the middle of the stage, Ponzinibbio shocked when he landed a right hand, which shook Morono. Alex fell and, noticing the fighter's condition, the referee stopped the battle.
