Barão beats Faber in the first round and defends UFC bantamweight belt

Brazilian defeated his challenger by technical knockout and crowned Nova União's perfect night in New Jersey

The first defense of Renan Barao as UFC bantamweight champion it couldn't have been better. In the early hours of this Sunday (2), in New Jersey, in the United States, the Brazilian managed to end the fight against the tough Urijah faber still in the first round, achieving victory by technical knockout after a devastating sequence of punches.

The main fight of UFC 169 started with some blows from both fighters, although Faber took a little more initiative. Barão controlled the distance well and didn't allow himself to be hit.

However, in the second half of the round, Barão landed a powerful straight right, which immediately took Faber to the ground. Barão tried to finish the fight, but Faber managed to survive. Shortly after, Barão landed a clean cross on Faber's temple, who fell again.

The North American tried to grab the Brazilian's leg, who continued to strike. The referee of the fight, Herb Dean, thought that Faber was defeated and ended the fight at 3:43 of the first round.

Although Faber disagreed with the stoppage, the fight crowned the Nova União academy's victorious night, as José Aldo, Barão's training partner, retained the featherweight belt against Ricardo Lamas. With this, the bantamweight champion reached an impressive record of 32 wins, one defeat and one fight without result.
