After Georges St Pierre and Martin Kampmann announced their temporary retirement from fighting, another UFC veteran announced that he will not compete in MMA in the near future. Alan belcher He appeared worn out by the injuries he acquired in his career and said he will focus on jiu-jitsu competitions.
Belcher, 29 years old, has competed in the UFC since 2006, and has a record of 18 wins and eight losses (9-6 within the UFC). In his last fight, in April 2013, he was defeated by Michael Bisping.
“I've suffered injuries practically my entire MMA career and I'm tired of it. I don't have many expectations to compete in MMA in the near future. Of course, I'll probably want to do it again, but right now, my life is a little different. Within the next six months I will not fight, I can guarantee that”, he said, in an interview with the North American website MMA Fighting. “With these injuries, I lost the desire to fight a little. I had some disappointments and lost the passion to chase the belt. I don’t want to do this for the money, but for the passion.”
“I'm trying to teach more classes and participate in jiu-jitsu competitions. When I focused on the UFC, I had to focus on that all day. Now, it's not like I'm going to stay in the pool and gain weight. I want to stay busy, working, but doing something else”, continued the middleweight.
Belcher's last victory was achieved at UFC on FOX 3, in May 2012, when he beat Brazilian Rousimar “Toquinho” Palhares.
