Even if the plan of Israel adesanya to have another chance against Alex Poatán for the middleweight belt (under 83,9kg), the rematch will have to wait until at least next year. This is because the Nigerian received a mandatory 60-day medical suspension after being knocked out and dethroned by the Brazilian in the main fight of the UFC 281, last Saturday (12).
After completing the mandatory 60 days, the former middleweight champion will need medical clearance to return to the octagon. The terms of the medical suspension were defined by the New York State Athletic Commission, the regulatory body for the event held at Madison Square Garden.

All fighters involved in the UFC 281 received at least seven days of mandatory suspension. Five athletes, including the now retired Frankie Edgar and the former challenger for the light heavyweight belt (up to 93kg) Dominick reyes, were suspended for at least 90 days.
New middleweight champion, Alex Poatán was suspended for a mandatory 30 days and will also need medical clearance to defend his title.
