Court orders millionaire bail for Cain Velasquez to be released from prison after eight months

Former heavyweight champion must pay around US$1 million to face trial while free

It was eight months of tension and controversy, but Cain Velazquez will get out of prison. Accused of chasing and shooting at a car carrying a man he allegedly molested one of his relatives, the former UFC heavyweight champion (up to 120,2kg) was fined US$1 million (around R$5,6 .XNUMX million) determined by the court of Santa Clara County, California (USA).

According to a decision last Tuesday (8), Velasquez will respond to the case in freedom and with an 'electronic ankle bracelet', having to stay 300 meters away from Harry Goularte, Patrícia Goularte and Paul Bender – involved in the case.

Compliance also provides for environmental psychological treatment, counseling and terms against the use of weapons. The pretrial hearing lasted for approximately 13 hours over a two-day period.

Cain has been in prison since February this year, after chasing and shooting a man accused of molesting a close relative. At the time, however, the American allegedly hit the target's stepfather, who was also in the car. He faced charges for attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, purposely discharging a weapon and possession of a loaded firearm to commit a felony.

Velasquez was UFC champion on two occasions, between 2010 and 2015. The former champion defended the title twice and established himself as one of the great names in UFC heavyweight history. His last performance took place in February 2019, when he was knocked out by the current champion Francis Ngannou.
