Firas Zahabi, head coach of Georges St Pierre, considers that some members of the press went “too far” during the period of uncertainty regarding the Canadian’s future.

After controversially beating John hendricks at UFC 167, the Canadian decided to give up the welterweight belt to step away from fighting for an indefinite period, claiming he needed time to deal with personal matters.

This caused it to be reported that the problems involved his father, Roland St. Pierre, who was seriously ill, in addition to Georges allegedly having impregnated a woman undesirably. Zahabi believes the media crossed the line by making speculations about St. Pierre's private life.

“I, like Georges, managed to deal with the harassment from the press, but they went too far when they started chasing people from his family. In this they went over the limit. They started with a rumor that his father was dying and all this ridiculous nonsense”, criticized the coach, in an interview with the Alchemist Radio podcast.

Zahabi stated, however, that the former welterweight champion is going through a moment of happiness in his life. “He looks fantastic. He found a happy medium between training and living his life, only training once a day, which is something he would never do before – he used to train twice a day at least. Now, he's taking it easy. His body needs rest and he needs this time away”, he detailed.
