Despite the serious injury to his left leg, Anderson Silva take care. The Brazilian underwent surgery this morning (29), after fracturing his tibia and fibula during the fight against Chris Weidman, the main duel of UFC 168, valid for the middleweight belt.
In an official statement, the Ultimate organization revealed that Spider underwent a surgical process led by Dr. Steve Sander, who inserted an intramedullary rod into the left tibia. Also according to the note, the recovery period for this type of injury is three to six months.
“After the main fight of UFC 168, the former champion Anderson Silva He was taken to a Las Vegas hospital, where he underwent surgery to repair his broken left leg. The surgery was a success and was performed by Dr. Steve Sanders, UFC orthopedic surgeon, who inserted an intramedullary nail into the left tibia. The broken fibula has been stabilized and will not require separate surgery. Anderson will remain in the hospital for a short period, but will not undergo further surgery. The recovery time for this type of injury can vary from three to six months”, read an excerpt from the statement, which followed with Anderson's thanks and request for time to decide his future.
“Anderson is deeply touched by the outpouring of support from his fans and the entire MMA community. There has been no immediate decision regarding his future and he kindly requests privacy at this time as he deals with his injury and prepares to return home to recover.”
