Less than 24 hours after being announced as one of the contenders for the event's inaugural lightweight belt World Series of Fighting, Brazilian Gesias Cavalcante was cut from fight night. According to the “MMA Jnkie” website, “JZ”, as he is known, suffered an injury during his training that forced him to abandon the fight.

To replace Gesias in the fight for the belt at WSOF 8, the organization announced the American Lewis Gonzalez. Gonzalez, undefeated in the four fights he fought as a professional, will face another athlete who also doesn't know what defeat means in his career: his compatriot Justin gaethje, who has ten victories on his record.
