Toquinho celebrates chance at WSOF: 'Everything is back to normal'

Brazilian fighter hopes that the recent controversies he has been involved in will not be repeated in his new event

Rousimar “Toquinho” Palhares is determined to take advantage of the opportunity to continue his career abroad and leave behind the recent problems he experienced in the UFC.

The Brazilian was fired from the world's main organization after failing to submit in his last fight, against Mike Pierce, in October. He had already done something similar in previous fights, when he applied a heel hook against Tomasz Drwal and took a few moments to release the position even with the referee's intervention.

Hired by legendary kickboxer Ray Sefo's World Series of Fighting event, Toquinho stated that he is focused on correcting his flaws. “We are working hard to ensure this never happens again. I wasn't focused and didn't realize what I was doing. Now I can see it and hope I can work on it. We are working correctly, correcting the problems. It’s perfect now”, said the fighter, in an interview with the North American website MMA Fighting.

“I never wanted to cause any harm to anyone, and I always believed I could find a new place to fight. I'm really happy that everything is back to normal in my life”, celebrated Toquinho, 33 years old.

Still without a defined date or opponent for his debut at the new event, Toquinho refuted the statements made by Jon Fitch, another WSOF welterweight fighter who criticized the Brazilian after his last fight. “The only thing that upset me was the fact that Fitch said he didn't like me. But I never did anything to him. He said these things without knowing me. I hope I can show him who I really am so he can change his opinion of me. I have nothing against him”, he softened.
