Whenever the name of Jon Jones was linked to a superfight, the Brazilian Anderson Silva was seen as his most likely opponent. Since Spider was defeated by Chris Weidman, however, speculation has decreased significantly. But anyone who thinks that this means the North American has given up on facing another champion is mistaken. In an interview with the “MMA Junkie” website, Jones stated that he plans to move up to heavyweight in the coming years and planned a duel against Cain Velazquez.

“I think this will happen in the next two years. I'll definitely move up to heavyweight. I'm looking for a superfight sooner or later, within the next year. I've been thinking about Cain Velazquez and I face each other and I think it would be something very big for our sport. He's definitely the toughest in the division and he's not that big, so I think it would be a very interesting fight, so don't be surprised if you see me there sooner or later”, said “Bones”.
