Just hours after being cut from UFC Fight Night 33 due to kidney problems, welterweight Brian Melancon announced his retirement from MMA. At age 31, Melancon was advised by his doctors to stop fighting in order to avoid worsening his health problem. On your official profile on Facebook, the athlete commented on the decision.

“I am sad to announce that my career has come to an end. I have been having kidney problems that have become much worse recently and I just discovered that my kidney function has dropped to 47%. If I continue to train, fight and cut weight, I will be at risk of permanent damage. I was told by my doctor that I should retire and move on, and that's what I'm doing. This is not the way I would like to turn out, but I have to believe that God has another way for me. Thank you to everyone who supported me during my career,” Melancon wrote.
