Excited about his dominant victory against Brian Ebersole at UFC 167, last Saturday (16), Rick Story hopes to face an opponent who is among the top ten in the organization's official rankings.
The North American welterweight is going through a moment of inconsistency in the event, as he has been alternating wins and losses. However, Story stated, in an interview with the North American website MMA Junkie, that he wants to rediscover himself in the category by facing a high-ranking fighter, even showing a preference for another dominant winner of UFC 167.
“I want to fight someone in the top 10. I just want to get back to being a top 10 in the world,” said Story. “I would fight [Tyron] Woodley,” she continued, referring to the fighter she knocked out Josh koscheck in the first round. “It doesn’t matter who I fight, as long as it’s a top 10.”
Even though he has an up and down record in the UFC, totaling nine wins and five losses, Story has already defeated two former challengers for the welterweight belt. He hit John hendricks in 2010, and then passed by Thiago Alves, in both unanimous decisions.
Currently, the following fighters occupy the first ten positions in the UFC rankings: John hendricks, Carlos Condit, Robbie Lawler, Rory McDonald, Jake ellenberger, Demian Maia, Jake Shields, Matt Brown, Martin Kampmann and Nick Diaz, in addition to the champion Georges St Pierre. Interestingly, Woodley, mentioned by Story, is not on the list.
