Last Friday (15), Patrício “Pitbull” Freire beat Justin Wilcox and won his second title. Grand Prix from Bellator. After yet another triumph, the Brazilian gave up his modesty and, in an interview with the website “MMA Junkie”, proclaimed himself the “toughest fighter on the planet”. Patrício cited his achievements to justify his point of view.

“I am the toughest fighter on the planet. I went through three tournaments, and that's a very difficult way to compete. Every fight is harder than the last, and I went through it three times. Not just any person or athlete can bear this sacrifice. Here I am, for the third time, fighting for my dream”, said Patrício, who is now waiting for a new chance at the Bellator featherweight belt. Pitbull's desire depends on the organization's decision whether or not to grant an immediate rematch to former champion Pat Curran, recently defeated by Daniel Straus.

Regarding the situation of Straus and Curran, Patrício does not believe that the former champion deserves to fight for the title again immediately. “Bellator now has a new dynamic, where, if someone loses a title fight narrowly, the fighter can have an automatic rematch. But I think Curran clearly lost. There was no contesting this defeat. That's why I think it would be unfair to give Curran an automatic rematch. There is no reason for that. He lost as clearly as when Eddie Alvarez lost to Michael chandler, but Eddie got a rematch. I didn’t understand this decision”, pondered the Brazilian.

At 26 years old, Patrício “Pitbull” Freire has a record of 21 wins and just two losses. The Brazilian has been undefeated since January this year, when he lost to Pat Curran, in a split decision between the judges, in the featherweight title fight. Since then, Pitbull has beaten the four opponents he faced, including two Brazilians: ex-UFC Diego Nunes and Fabrício Guerreiro.
