With an eye on the clash between Do Bronx and Makhachev, Volkanovski admits the chance of being a reserve in the title fight

With the dream of becoming a new double Ultimate champion, Alexander Volkanovsky dreams big and has his eye on the lightweight (up to 70,3kg) belt fight between Charles of the Bronx e Islam makhachev. Absolute at featherweight (up to 65,7kg), the Australian expressed interest in taking on reserve status in the UFC 280 to take the lead role in the show, in case of injury to the Brazilian or the Russian.

“If I was fit, would I step up in case someone got injured, which is what I believe will happen? Offer myself so that no one can take this opportunity away from me? If it's possible, I can take that trip to Abu Dhabi”, admitted Volkanovski in an interview with 'The Telegraph'.

Featherweight champion since 2019, Alexander has shone in his latest appearances and increasingly consolidated his legacy in the category. After his last triumph, at the beginning of July, when he passed for the third time Max Holloway, the Australian stated that his plan for the future would be to win the lightweight title.

No UFC 280, MMA fans will follow the clash between Charles of the Bronx e Islam makhachev. The Brazilian star tries to regain the throne controversially lost in May, and faces who, for many, is considered the successor to Khabib Nurmagomedov.

To qualify as a reserve for the October 22nd event, Volkanovski must be free from an injury suffered during the trilogy with Holloway. At the moment, the athlete is recovering from the injury and still doesn't know when he will be fully able to compete at a high level.
