Victim of a historic 'blackout' against Julianna Pena in December 2021, Amanda nunes admits that she thought about abandoning MMA after losing the bantamweight belt (up to 61,2kg) to the Venezuelan. Legend of the sport, the Brazilian vented about the moment, but assured that she is ready to retake the throne this Saturday (30), when she once again shares the octagon with her rival.

“I even thought about retiring: 'Now it's over, enjoy (life) a little bit”, said Nunes, in an interview with 'Esporte Espetacular'.

The doubt about continuing his successful career in mixed martial arts, however, was short-lived. The Brazilian stated that, moments after the initial thought, the plan was to continue in the sport and try to regain the belt won in 2016.

“When I got back to the hotel, (having lost) to Julianna and the way it was, I have to go back and get that belt back and really get into that cage 100%,” he said.

Submitted by Peña at UFC 269, Amanda will seek to take advantage of her opponent's psychological side in the rematch. For the Brazilian legend, the new bantamweight champion could make the mistake of feeling comfortable, and lose focus at some point.

“Julianna is very confident. She found the way and will come very confident. This, in addition to being a strong point in her now, is also a weak point, because in that confidence I find the gaps. That’s what I need now, just a full camp, and I’m going to take that belt back,” she concluded.

Bantamweight champion between 2016 and 2021, Nunes lost a fight since the setback against Zingano cat, in 2014. After the stumble, the Bahian recovered brilliantly, reaching the mark of 12 consecutive victories and adding two belts in the organization.

The new meeting between Amanda and Peña will represent the main fight of the UFC 277. The event takes place in Dallas, in the United States. In addition to the clash for the women's bantamweight title, the show will also introduce sports fans to the new interim flyweight champion (up to 56,7kg). The dispute will be on the ground Brandon Moreno e Kai Kara France.
