L. Mineiro aims for return at UFC event in Jaraguá do Sul
The year 2013 will forever remain in our memory. lucas mineiro. It was during this season that his life changed completely, with two significant victories in three fights in the UFC, which elevated him to the status of a great Brazilian promise in the bantamweight category (up to 61kg), another first in his career. The fourth appointment would be this Saturday, November 9th, against Johnny Eduardo, at UFC Fight Night 32, in Goiânia, but an injury to his left thumb that was not recovered after his October victory over Ramiro Hernandez took him out of action.
Lucas has already started physiotherapy sessions, which can last up to six weeks. At the end of each week, he will have a consultation to see if the weekly recovery goal has been achieved. Despite the moment being cautious, Lucas is already making plans for 2014, such as another fight in Brazil. If possible on the stage where he achieved his first UFC victory.
“I want my return to the octagon to be at home, I want to fight at UFC Fight Night in Jaraguá do Sul, I want to receive the support and energy of the public, see my family there and take another step towards having a successful career and lasting in the UFC. Fighting in Brazil will be great to start the year off on the right foot, and, more than that, to start my goal for the year, which is the Top 10 in the category. This will be my goal for 2014”, says Mineiro.
With the euphoria of his debut year already behind him, Lucas knows that the responsibility to meet expectations will now be even greater in 2014.
“This year was spectacular and I'm sure I'll remember all the moments, events and learnings from this first year in the UFC. The first fight didn't have the result I expected, but the comeback came with moving down the category and with good victories. I am increasingly confident that we made the right choice and now it is time to look for new goals”, concludes the athlete, who has a record of 14 wins and one loss, in his UFC debut, against Edson Barboza, when he was called up with less than a week's notice for combat.
