The chance to regain the UFC light heavyweight (up to 93 kg) belt may come sooner than expected for Glover Teixeira. After submitting the Brazilian in the last seconds of the main fight of the UFC 275, in June, and become the new champion of the category, Jiri Prochazka stated that he wants an immediate rematch as his first belt defense.
The request for the rematch was made by Jiri Prochazka through a video published on social media this Monday morning (11). The Czech justified his choice by stating that he intends to show everyone why he is the UFC light heavyweight champion after a “bad performance” on the night he won the belt.
"Hello everybody. I wish you a great day and I have made a decision for my next fight. I want to face Glover in the next fight. Not because it will be another big fight, but for one reason only: my performance was bad in the first duel and I want to show you why I am the champion in a clear and decisive way. I think Glover deserves it. So here’s the offer: I’m going to show you why I’m the champion,” Prochazka said.
Jiri Prochazka came close to suffering its first defeat in the last seven years against Glover Teixeira. The Brazilian was winning the fight in the view of the side judges, but the Czech managed an unlikely submission with 28 seconds left in the fight.
