The target of harsh criticism in recent days, after holding on to the submission over Mike Pierce at UFC Barueri for too long, which resulted in his dismissal by the UFC, Rousimar “Toquinho” Palhares publicly acknowledged his mistake this Monday (21). In an interview with the “MMA Fighting” website, Toquinho spoke about what happened and assured that he did not feel the slaps of his opponent's withdrawal.

“I didn’t want to hurt him. In the heat of the fight, I didn't feel him hit. Afterwards, when I watched the fight, I realized that I held on for too long, but I really didn't want to hurt him, you know? He's a fighter like I am, and I know he does this for a living and I would never want to hurt him,” said the Brazilian.

Toquinho also claimed to have already lost fights due to throwing submissions before his opponent gave up. “I think this is a lot because of my style. I'm very aggressive when I go for the submission. There were moments when I didn't hold on and the guys got free, and I ended up losing the fight”, explained Toquinho.

On October 9th, Rousimar “Toquinho” beat Mike Pierce with a quick submission at UFC Fight Night 29, in Barueri (SP). The Brazilian, however, held on to the heel hook even after his opponent tapped twice and the match referee interfered, trying to separate them.
