Promise for the future of the UFC, Sean O'Malley recognizes the great phase it is going through Charles of the Bronx. An admirer of the Brazilian's current moment, the North American stated that the São Paulo native could be the biggest challenge for Khabib Nurmagomedov, in the Russian's eventual return to MMA. The statement was made to 'Canal Encarada'.

“It would be an interesting fight where I would like to see Khabib return to the division. (The biggest challenge) would be Charles. I think Khabib would 'destroy' all the rest (of his opponents). I believe Charles would be the only one to give a real problem. Maybe that’s why he retired,” O’Mallay said.

MMA legend, the Russian left the sport in October 2020. At the time, the athlete had just overcome Justin gaethje and unify the lightweight belt.

With the title vacant, Do Bronx ended up consecrated in the category after beating Michael chandler. The Brazilian even defended the throne once (against Dustin poirier), but lost his position after failing to make the weight cut for the UFC 274.
